UP Wahsatch Mountains
October 18-19, 2002

An hour and half drive from Salt Lake City, known as a former Winter Olympic Game site, UP Wahsatch Pass offered a steep and hilly view in the impressive lighting in the late afternoon. It was my first experience to photo an UP mainline and I enjoyed the Yellow SD70MACs as well as SP fashon C44-9Ws. Both were rather new for me.

I drove around between Echo, Emory, Wahsatch and Evanston (West to East.) where UP double tracks run parallely north side of I-80. An old paved road runs north side of the tracks between Echo and Emory while an unpaved road runs south side of the tracks at Wahsatch-Evanston. Both should offer nice shots if lighting condition allows. But it was not simply peaceful. I saw railroad patrol cars staying and watching carefully at most of the grade crossings. Therefore I photoed only at the freeway exits in order not to stimulate them.
