| Remarks: Class EH800 is AC 20kV/25kV two-unit electric locomotive developed for freight trains on the Kaikyō Line that connects Honshu main island and Hokkaido island through the Seikan Tunnel. EH800 is equipped with the digital ATC system used for tye Shinkansen system to share trucks at the Seikan Tunnel portion.
On a chilly, snowy and stormy afternoon, former prototype unit EH800-901 comes across the Kanita river, receiving rare sunlight on the day of my visit. The train #3083 connects Kudara, Osaka to Sapporo, Hokkaido, in 31 hours 05 min. The south portal of the Seikan Tunnel is only 20km away. |
